The Horatio Alger Association for Distinguished Americans is an organization of individuals that have faced considerable adversity yet have achieved a high degree of success. I was a 2009 Horatio Alger Scholar, and it was a great honor to be inducted into the organization. Out of forty thousand applicants only 108 were chosen. Scholars were chosen under the premise that they have not only achieved a great deal of academic success in the face of adversity, but in the meantime managed to participate in a number of extracurricular activities. At this point in my life, I feel as though this was my most prestigious award. In order to become a Horatio Alger Alumni it is necessary to graduate from your four year college. I know that I am going to be a Horatio Alger Alumni because I want to help represent this great organization.
